Thirty years ago, I was walking down Columbus Avenue in New York City and stumbled upon a gem of a retail store selling delicious prepared food called The Silver Palate. The store – all 150 square feet of it – sold the highest quality food one could imagine.
So many people on their way home from work came to The Silver Palate for delicious and inventive dinners like the famous chicken marbella, or stopped by on weekend mornings for incredible baked goods before hosting brunch. The spot became a favorite for harried executives, neighborhood couples, families and solitary diners who yearned for delicious meals but didn’t have a lot of time to prepare them.
Thus was born the Silver Palate Kitchen’s line of products, made by hand, in small batches, under the highest and most rigorous standards. With the help of products like salad dressings and condiments, homecooks were inspired to spend time in the kitchen and share meals with friends and family.
